Dundee 1-2 Dundee United Kevin Thomson Former Dundee midfielder on BBC Radio Scotland I thought they would need a miracle and it might just happen. Ashley Hay What were we saying? Dundee do have a goal back. Finlay Robertson's ball into the box falls to Ashley Hay and the substitute forward prods home on the goalline. Dundee 0-2 Dundee United The game is petering out for Dundee. The Tayside sun is shining on the United fans behind the visiting goal. Dundee 0-2 Dundee United As we enter five minutes of stoppage time, there is no sign of a Dundee comeback. Indeed, Zac Sapsford has a chance to extend the lead, but the striker is wild with his finish. Dundee 0-2 Dundee United United centre-half Ross Graham takes a sore one in the unmentionables but recovers quickly. Dundee 0-2 Dundee United Dundee have the ball in the net after Ashley Hay's low cross come cross is knocked home inside the six-yard box. But the offside flag was always going to be raised. Dundee 0-2 Dundee United Kevin Thomson Former Dundee midfielder on BBC Radio Scotland When I walked into the stadium and spoke to Dundee fans, and even friends that are United fans, everyone fancied Dundee - the way they've been playing, the plaudits they've been getting. They've just not laid a glove on United. Dundee 0-2 Dundee United Johnny Russell almost makes an immediate goalscoring impact. The Scotland cap fires from 12 yards, but goalkeeper Jon Mc Cracken does well to beat the effort clear. Dundee 0-2 Dundee United Veteran forward Johnny Russell is on as a United substitute along with Ryan Strain. Neil Farrugia and goalscorer Luca Stephenson are off. Dundee 0-2 Dundee United Ashley Maynard-Brewer to the rescue this time. The United goalkeeper has to parry clear from a cross into the penalty box at the front post. Dundee 0-2 Dundee United A rush of blood from United goalkeeper Ashley Maynard-Brewer. He is caught in no-man's land, but Scott Wright's cross into the box finds no takers. Dundee 0-2 Dundee United Brian Mc Lauchlin BBC Sport Scotland at Dens Park The Bob Shankly Stand at Dens Park is where the vast majority of the United fans are housed this afternoon and they are making some noise as they watch their team take command. Meanwhile, the home support are very quiet and it’s probably more hope than expectation about a comeback being on the cards. You can never tell, though, in this game! Dundee 0-2 Dundee United Kevin Thomson Former Dundee midfielder on BBC Radio Scotland For how brilliant United have been in the second half, Dundee have been abysmal. Samuels has to be stronger at the back post, he's favourite to get the ball there. Will Ferry and Luca Stephenson, the two wing-backs, have been catalysts for everything good United have done. They've got great energy, they're really aggressive without the ball. Luca Stephenson scored United's second goal Dundee 0-2 Dundee United Zac Sapsford, who scored for United when they won 2-0 at Dens earlier in the season, replaces Max Watters up front. Dundee 0-2 Dundee United John Rankin Former Dundee United midfielder on BBC Sportsound Again, it comes from United being much more aggressive. Dundee have the ball in the middle of the pitch, but United pounce. It's good play and wing-back to wing-back is almost unstoppable. That's where you want your wing-backs to be. They couldn't sit on the 1-0 lead and now it's going to be really difficult for Dundee to get back in this game. Dundee 0-2 Dundee United Ashley Hay, who scored at Tannadice in Dundee's win in the last derby, and Joe Westley replace Simon Murray and Joel Cotterill. Have the changes come too late? Luca Stephenson It's all United at the moment - and they have a second! Will Ferry's deep cross finds Luca Stephenson rising above his marker at the back post and the on-loan Liverpool midfielder's header is in off the underside of the crossbar. Dundee are in trouble now. Dundee 0-1 Dundee United Amar Fatah has United ahead and, right on queue, the midfielder tries another shot from distance, but it is an easy hold for goalkeeper Jon Mc Cracken. Amar Fatah's penalty separates the sides Dundee 0-1 Dundee United John Rankin Former Hibernian midfielder on BBC Sportsound My fear here is United, when they get themselves in front, want to defend the lead and they just sit in their 18-yard box. Everyone comes deeper and they invite crosses. They've got three really strong centre-backs who can defend the box, but when you're 1-0 up in the derby, and doing well forward going, just continue to do so. Keep putting the ball forward, keep putting Fatah on the ball, and kill the game. Tuur Rommens converted Nico Raskin's cross for the decisive moment At a glance Rommens taps home Raskin's cross for game's only goal on 31 minutes Rohl's side move to within three points of leaders Hearts St Mirren only above Kilmarnock in relegation play-off on goal difference Rangers moved to within three points of Scottish Premiership leaders Hearts thanks to a narrow victory at managerless St Mirren. Tuur Rommens' first goal for the Ibrox club proved to be the difference between the sides, tapping home an excellent cross from Nico Raskin on 31 minutes. Rangers spurned several chances to extend their lead, but always looked comfortable defensively and saw the game out for a potentially vital three points. After Celtic beat Motherwell and Hearts lost at Kilmarnock on Saturday, the league's top three have bunched up again before the final eight matches of the season. Rangers dominated possession from the off but struggled to create in the opening stages in a swirling Paisley wind. However, Raskin delivered a rare moment of quality with a superb left-footed cross and Rommens ghosted in behind unaware defender Richard King to open the scoring. Visiting striker Youssef Chermiti inexplicably volleyed wide from six yards out before half-time, and home goalkeeper Shamal George made two good saves to deny Ryan Naderi and James Tavernier after the break. The hosts' best chance came when a loose ball fell to Mark O'Hara on the edge of the box, but he scuffed his shot straight at a Rangers defender. St Mirren - led by caretaker manager Craig Mc Leish after Stephen Robinson's departure to Aberdeen earlier this week - are only above Kilmarnock in the relegation play-off spot on goal difference and trail ninth-placed Aberdeen by six points. Having drawn three of their past four league outings, Danny Rohl made three changes from the side that were knocked out of the Scottish Cup by Celtic last weekend. Much was made of their lack of cutting edge against Celtic last weekend - beaten on penalties after a goalless 120 minutes prior - and they once again struggled in the final third. Chermiti and Naderi both struggled to get into the game and Tavernier had countless crosses headed clear by the home defence. Mikey Moore was an ever-willing outlet and thought he had teed up a second in second-half stoppage time, but Thelo Aasgaard's finish was chalked off for a tight offside. However, Raskin and Rommens produced the one bit of class and composure that mattered and at this stage of the season, results are more important than performances. Rangers host Aberdeen and Dundee United next, before finishing their pre-split fixtures at Falkirk. St Mirren were without Marcus Fraser and Keanu Baccus - who will likely miss the rest of the season through injury - and Declan John, who picked up a less serious issue in the build-up. They join an already lengthy list of absentees and the Paisley club are still without a league win since 3 February. With Kilmarnock's upturn under Neil Mc Cann, particularly at home, St Mirren are at real risk of relegation after eight years in the top flight. Despite three consecutive top-six finishes and a memorable League Cup triumph in December, they have struggled in the league all season and now have to navigate the final eight matches of the campaign without Robinson. The new manager - whoever it may be - will have the hugely difficult task of reversing their recent form and avoiding the relegation play-off. St Mirren go to Falkirk on Saturday (15: 00 GMT), while Rangers welcome Aberdeen to Govan later that day (17: 45 GMT).
