By KIERAN GILL, MAIL SPORT REPORTER Published: 01: 25 AEDT, 17 March 2026 | Updated: 02: 46 AEDT, 17 March 2026 18 View comments Chelsea have been dealt the blow that their captain, Reece James, has sustained another hamstring injury which requires a scan. Coming at a crucial stage of the season, with the Blues fighting for a top-five finish in the Premier League, they have now lost their leader. James played back-to-back full 90s in four days, first away at Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League and then at home to Newcastle in the Premier League. In between those fixtures, he signed a new six-year contract with Chelsea. However, eyebrows were raised when he was missing from their open training session on Monday morning before the visit of PSG in their Champions League last-16 second leg on Tuesday night. Confirming the news at his pre-PSG press conference, Rosenior said: 'He felt something in his hamstring at the end of the game against Newcastle. We don't know the full extent of the injury, but he will be out for tomorrow's game. 'It could be (serious). With a hamstring injury, it's never great. Hopefully we can get him scanned and find out the full extent. ' Chelsea need to stage a miraculous comeback to avoid falling out of the Champions League to PSG, who won 5-2 in Paris last week. Reece James faces several weeks on the sidelines after picking up a hamstring injury This is believed to be the 10th different hamstring injury that James has endured to either leg since December 2020, and England manager Thomas Tuchel will be nervously awaiting his own update. The Three Lions are due to face Uruguay and Japan later this month and James would have been among those selected. Tuchel must name his World Cup squad by May 30. James joined Rosenior for his press conference at Cobham last week after signing his new deal, and told the reporters present: ‘I’m in a really good place at the moment, my body’s feeling good. I’m playing on a regular basis, two or three games a week, and I just try to help the team as much as I can. ’
