Arsenal have lined up a potential forward option for the summer who could replace Kai Havertz. The Gunners, from a playing perspective, will still be fully focused on this season, sitting top of the Premier League table and still with the FA Cup and Champions League trophies on the line. But recruitment departments have to look further ahead than that, and those at Emirates Stadium are already eyeing a new attacking target. Get VIP Arsenal tickets HERE with Seat Unique! The north London outfit went big last season to bring in former Sporting man Viktor Gyokeres, and while he’s made a decent start to life in London, he certainly hasn’t blown the league away. Even so, given the injury records of both Havertz and Gabriel Jesus, it may be that pair more under threat from this most recent move.
According to journalist Christian Falk, Arsenal are currently leading the race to sign Club Brugge striker Nicolo Tresoldi. The 21-year-old has 17 goals and five assists in 48 appearances in all competitions so far this season, including three goals in the Champions League proper, and one in qualifying. Falk reports that Arsenal are “seriously interested and talks are underway. ” The young forward is eligible for all of Italy, Germany and Argentina, but Falk told Caught Offside that: “He seems to be the future of Germany in the striker position. ” Tresoldi was previously with German side Hannover 96, but moved to Club Brugge last summer in a deal worth around €7m, with a contract running until 2029.
In Four Four Two’s opinion, this may threaten Havertz and Jesus’s future at Arsenal: Gyokeres still has plenty to prove, but he has not been poor enough to consider selling after a single season, and crucially, he has been available. That means he’d probably work well in rotation with Tresoldi, whereas Jesus and Havertz are regularly unavailable, and may be viewed by the money managers as wasted funds, better to get off the books. Tresoldi is valued at €13m, according to Transfermarkt. Isaac Stacey Stronge is a freelance football writer working for Four Four Two, Manchester United and Football League World.
